Lettuce Great Lakes is an heirloom iceberg variety, first introduced in 1941. Nothing can beat this variety as a consistent producer of good-sized, crisp, round heads. It is slow to bolt with crunchy, succulent leaves and it’s a favourite with gardeners as it grows well in summer when other lettuces shy from the heat and run to seed.
Easy to pick and prepare. ‘Great Lakes’ produces large, crinkled leaves which form a dense head in the center. It is an excellent variety for salads, for shredding and adding to wraps, burgers and sandwiches and has very good storage ability if kept refrigerated.
