Onion Gladalan Brown is an Australian heirloom onion variety from the 1920’s, bred by Glad and Alan Brown at their garden nursery Gladalan in Armadale, WA. It is a large, brown-skinned onion that is easy to grow and well suited to warmer climates. It stores well and can be grown as a spring onion. For mature onions harvest when tops dry.
Choose a growing site that receives full sun for best growth, onions will also tolerate very light shade. Ensure soil is free draining and free of rocks and pebbles. Don’t over fertilise your onion plants or they will put all of their energy into producing leafy growth rather than bulb growth. Regular cultivation to control weeds is essential.
