Leek Carentan

Leek Carentan is an old heritage variety is originally from France and dates back to at least 1885. The leaves are large, flat & broad with a blue green colouring with a tender white base and high yields. They have a delicate and delicious flavour that grows vigorously, and adapt to most soils.

They have a high resistance to cold conditions even to freezing. Perfect for salads, stews, quiche and soups and nutrition wise, they are richer than onions in vitamin C, sulphur, potassium and calcium.

Just like onion, carrots and other root or stem vegetables, Leek plants prefer a loose, friable soil with high organic matter to ensure they produce large and delicious vegetables. Hill the stems with soil to blanch and create longer leeks. Keep well watered.
