Description

Squash Vegetable Spaghetti is an unusual squash that produces fruits which, when cooked have a stringy flesh like spaghetti.

It can be used in all sorts of meals from pasta, stuffed dishes through to stews and whilst it  tastes like a squash it can be used as a spaghetti substitute for a healthier option.

It is a vigorous vine that produces yellow fruits to 30cm. It has a mild flavour and slightly crisp texture. Can also be used in salads, sauces, stews and casseroles.

It is a frost tender plant best grown in full sun on a trellis. Each vine bears 4 to 5 squashes and this Mexican heirloom produces both male and female flowers, so it’s best to have a few vines for pollination.

They are best picked at about 20cm which is around 15 weeks. The fruit will be around 2kg in size. To store give them a  wipe down with a highly diluted bleach solution. If the skin is not nicked, the fruits will last for months.
