The Cucumber African Horned  is an unusual with spikey egg shaped plant that matures to a bright orange-yellow. Although, it is called a cucumber, it is more like a melon in the way it is used. With a jelly-like flesh and a flavour similar to a mix of banana, lime and cucumber, it makes a great addition to salads, salsas, juices or use as garnish.

It is a vigorous vine that can be grown on trellises or on the ground and it will handle poor soils relatively well as long as the soil drains well.

Ensure you don’t fertilise too heavily with nitrogen or over water as this will promote excess leaf growth. This also tends to promote male flowers but no female flowers which are needed for fruit production.
