Cress Extra Curled is a slow-bolting garden cress producing plants with dark-green finely cut, curled leaves with a sweet and hot peppery flavour. Also known also as Peppergrass, it produces plants up to 15-20 cm tall.
It likes moist, organic soils and it’s even possible for apartment-dwellers to grow it in containers for fresh greens. Cress is known for its nutritional value and is particularly rich in iron.
Use the leaves in salads or on sandwiches and save the peppery seeds to use as a spice. It’s leaves have a lovely mustardy bite that makes them a natural companion to strongly flavoured meats.
Super easy to grow and quick to harvest, so perfect for beginners. You can even grow them on cotton balls which is lots of fun with kids. Sprout them in a glass container to show how the root systems develop, totally fascinating.
