Description

Tomato Cherry Black deserves isn’t your average cherry tomato—its deep, dusky hues and sweet, smoky taste make it a standout, whether eaten fresh off the vine or tossed into a summer salad. The flavour is bold, sweet, with a hint of smokiness that sets it apart from the red cherry varieties.

The plant produces clusters of 3 cm round fruits that ripen to a dark mahogany, often with subtle green or purple shoulders when grown in full sun. The colour isn’t just skin-deep—slice one open, and you’ll find flesh that’s a deep, reddish-black, a sign of the high anthocyanin content  which are the same antioxidants found in blueberries.

This variety is also a reliable performer with a good disease tolerance, adapting well to a range of Australian climates, provided it gets plenty of sunshine. The plants are typically vigorous and productive, yielding generous trusses of fruit over a long season. While they thrive in warm weather, they’ve been known to hold up better than some varieties during mild temperature swings, making them a practical choice for gardeners in both temperate and subtropical regions.

Indeterminate, climbing variety. Requires staking.
