Also known as Baby’s Breath, Gypsophilia Snowflake is a favourite for cut flowers and arrangements and looks fabulous in the garden. Its airy clouds of pure white flowers add contrast and texture to a perennial border and it has a softening effect on the surrounding plants.

It grows in decorative mounds up to 90cm high and 60cm wide and is covered with myriads of long lasting flowers floating above feathery blue-green foliage.

It thrives in full sun and enjoy average, well draining soils. Alkaline soils are preferred over acidic soils so add lime if required.

Direct sow the seed and press the seed into the soil’s surface, since it requires light to sprout. Keep the soil moist until it germinates, which usually occurs in 10-15 days.

This plant grows well in rich, light soils. Plant in groups of 3 to 4 plants for the best visual effect and cut back after flowering to encourage rebloom. It is a low maintenance perennial and generally pest free plant and is also drought and salt tolerant.

Seed Saving: After blooming, each flower will develop a small round seed pod. As soon as the pods dry and contain mature black seed, shake them over a container to remove the seed.

The entire plant can also be cut several inches above ground level and hung upside down, to allow the seed to fall as the plant dries.
